MCGREGOR ROAD PEDESTRIAN CROSSING COMPLETE

21 February 2012

Works to build a new pedestrian crossing at McGregor Road in Pakenham are now complete, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Member for Eastern Victoria, Edward O’Donohue announced today.

Mr O’Donohue said the State Government-funded pedestrian crossing on the western side of the railway crossing features disability access, paving, fencing, tactile ground surface indicators, lighting, and signage and automated pedestrian gates.

Mr O’Donohue said the project delivers another Coalition election commitment following community concern and feedback.

“After years of waiting, the new crossing will enable pedestrians to cross safety the railway line on each side of the busy road,” Mr O’Donohue said.

“With the new pedestrian crossing it will be easier for people with vision or mobility impairment and for local families to cross the railway line,” Mr O’Donohue said.

Member Bass, Ken Smith, said the local community would welcome the safety upgrade.

“Local families had ongoing concerns about the risks of crossing McGregor Road to access the pedestrian crossing,” Mr Smith said.

“The Coalition listened to the community and the safety works alleviate the need for residents to cross McGregor Road in order to cross the railway line.

“With many families moving into the area we need to ensure that our community infrastructure is keeping up with the pace of growth.”

The works were managed by VicTrack, on behalf of the Victorian Government.
