Our Electorate
From the beaches and wineries of the Mornington Peninsula to the pristine coastline of East Gippsland, the Eastern Victoria Region spans the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne to the rural heartland of Gippsland.
With a growing population that includes the developing growth corridor between Berwick and Pakenham to the regional centres of Traralgon, Sale Bairnsdale and Wonthaggi, Eastern Victoria Region covers 46,000 square kilometres. Other major towns in the region include Leongatha, Lilydale, Mornington, Morwell and Portsea.
Featuring some of Victoria’s most picturesque natural wonders Eastern Victoria Region extends from the scenic coastline of Wilsons Promontory and Bass Coast in the south to the high plains of the Great Dividing Range in the north.
Employment in the region is supported by the local agriculture and resource industries where Gippsland is renowned for its fertile country producing some of Australia’s best primary produce.
Eastern Victoria Region is also home to some of Victoria’s major tourism drawcards such as the fairy penguins at Phillip Island, fishing at Lakes Entrance, the natural beauty of the wine growing region of the Yarra Valley and the history of Puffing Billy in Emerald.
First established in 2006, the creation of the new Legislative Council Regions represents the biggest change to the Victorian Legislative Council in its 150 year history.
